چکیده

This work compares the post-editing productivity of professional translators and lay users. We integrate an English to Basque MT system within Bologna Translation Service, an endto-end translation management platform, and perform a producitivity experiment in a real working environment. Six translators and six lay users translate or post-edit two texts from English into Basque. Results suggest that overall, post-editing increases translation throughput for both translators and users, although the latter seem to benefit more from the MT output. We observe that translators and users perceive MT differently. Additionally, a preliminary analysis seems to suggest that familiarity with the domain, source text complexity and MT quality might affect potential productivity gain.

Measuring User Productivity in Machine Translation Enhanced Computer Assisted Translation

This paper addresses the problem of reliably measuring productivity gains by professional translators working with a machine translation enhanced computer assisted translation tool. In particular, we report on a field test we carried out with a commercial CAT tool in which translation memory matches were supplemented with suggestions from a commercial machine translation engine. The field test ...

Questing for Quality Estimation A User Study

Post-Editing of Machine Translation (MT) has become a reality in professional translation workflows. In order to optimize the management of projects that use post-editing and avoid underpayments and mistrust from professional translators, effective tools to assess the quality of Machine Translation (MT) systems need to be put in place. One field of study that could address this problem is Machi...

Productivity and quality in the post-editing of outputs from translation memories and machine translation

Machine-translated segments are increasingly included as fuzzy matches within the translation-memory systems in the localisation workflow. This study presents preliminary results on the correlation between these two types of segments in terms of productivity and final quality. In order to test these variables, we set up an experiment with a group of eight professional translators using an on-li...

Identifying the Machine Translation Error Types with the Greatest Impact on Post-editing Effort

Translation Environment Tools make translators' work easier by providing them with term lists, translation memories and machine translation output. Ideally, such tools automatically predict whether it is more effortful to post-edit than to translate from scratch, and determine whether or not to provide translators with machine translation output. Current machine translation quality estimation s...

What Do Professional Translators Do when Post-Editing for the First Time? First Insight into the Spanish-Basque Language Pair

Machine translation post-editing is becoming commonplace and professional translators are often faced with this unknown task with little training and support. Given the different translation processes involved during post-editing, research suggests that untrained translators do not necessarily make good post-editors. Besides, the post-editing activity will be largely influenced by numerous aspe...
